Dr Katherine Stuart

Brisbane Hepatologist

PhD, FRACP, MBBS

Dr Stuart is a Gastroenterologist with extensive clinical experience in liver disease with a private practice based at Greenslopes Private Hospital. She is also the Head of Hepatology at Princess Alexandra Hospital and a senior member of The Queensland Liver Transplant Service.

Katherine is a UQ graduate and completed her training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mater Adult and Royal Brisbane Hospitals (1995-1997), before spending a year in London with Professor Roger Williams (1998). Post FRACP, she was completed a PhD investigating Iron Accumulation in Cirrhosis. Between 2003-2007, she was the Director of Physician Training. Dr Stuart is nationally recognised as an excellent Clinical Hepatologist.

Dr Stuart has a strong commitment to clinical research and teaching as reflected by her involvement with the GESA-ALA Clinical Trials Network and the supervision and mentoring of >20 Gastroenterology trainees and Liver Fellows. Dr Stuart has many years of expertise in Industry-sponsored clinical trials through Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation.

In recent years Dr Stuart has been a working party member of Australian consensus statements including Hepatitis B management during immunosuppression and Recommendations for the management of Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

Her major areas of interest are liver cancer, cirrhosis, auto-immune liver disease and viral hepatitis.
