Dr Simon Wood

Dr Wood has been the Director of Urology at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane for more than 10 years and has more than 15 years experience as a renal transplant surgeon

He has extensive experience in:

• Robotic kidney surgery, partial and complete nephrectomy
  
• Robotic prostatectomy for prostate cancer
  
• Major open surgery for advanced cancer including vena cava tumour thrombus and IVC graft replacement
  
• Robotic RPLND, retroperitoneal clearance for metastatic testis cancer
  
• Laparoscopic and robotic adrenalectomy
  
• Renal transplantation
  
• Nephrectomy, bench surgery and auto-transplantation for complex kidney cancer

Dr Wood is the surgical lead for multidisciplinary networks in hereditary kidney cancer conditions and is passionate about improving care for patients with renal disease and renal malignancy through exploration of deficiencies in contemporary surgical practice. He is co-lead of the Kidney Cancer Research Group at the Centre for Kidney Disease Research (CKDR) located at the Translational Research Institute, Brisbane and has overseen development of an extensive biobank from over 400 patients undergoing surgical resection for kidney cancer. This resource has facilitated a wide array of research programs into renal malignancy and chronic kidney disease.
